Far-right challenge to Republican incumbent in Texas highlights growing divisions within party

As in previous electoral cycles, more far-right candidates are showing up at the polls this year. In Texas, incumbent Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales, who has worked on the other side on a number of issues, faced just such a challenge. Last night, Gonzales narrowly beat out far-right YouTube personality Brandon Herrera, receiving 50.7 percent of the vote to Herrera’s 49.3 percent.

To discuss what these growing divisions mean for the future of the Republican Party, I’m joined by former Republican Congressman Joe Walsh.
