3 people found dead, including 1 with life-threatening injuries in Marion, Iowa

Police say the possible motive for the deaths of three people and the serious injuries of another in rural Linn County on Wednesday was to make a movie out of the crime.

Deputies from the Linn County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to 3699 E. Otter Road, located in rural Marion north of Cedar Rapids, for an undisclosed reason around 4 p.m., Sheriff Brian Gardner said in a Press release. First responders found four adult victims with “serious injuries.”

Three of the victims died at the scene and one of the other victims was airlifted to the hospital with injuries that appear life-threatening, Gardner said.

The investigation revealed the victims died from blunt force trauma to the head caused by a metal pipe, Gardner said. All three deceased victims were transported to the state medical examiner’s office in Ankeny for an autopsy.

“Among the possible motives was the possibility that the crime would be made into a movie,” Gardner said in the release.
