Excessive heat warning ends Friday evening

PHOENIX (AZFamille) — The third day of our first weather alert was warm and sunny to end a brutal period of unseasonably high temperatures.

Our overnight low of 87 degrees will break the record low temperature of 85 set in 1977!

The average nighttime low for this time of year is 76 degrees.

Most Valley towns topped 110 degrees by late afternoon, but remained below Friday’s 1985 record of 115.

Light showers were reported in the high elevations of the White Mountains in eastern Arizona as a flow of moisture rises from the south, circling around that monstrous ridge of high pressure that produced this record heat .

Our excessive heat warning still lasts Friday evening.

It’s been very hot in the High Country, with Flagstaff recording its first 90-degree day on record, with 91 on Thursday.

The ridge will begin to move toward eastern Arizona, which should drop our temperatures slightly over the weekend and introduce more clouds into the deserts.

This surge will also bring a slight risk of thunderstorms, primarily to the higher elevations of eastern Arizona over the weekend.

Expect high temperatures to stay below 110 Sunday through Tuesday, with higher heat returning midweek.
