Los Angeles police say shooting near college killed one man, injured four others

A shooting near a Los Angeles middle school killed a man and injured four other people Friday evening, police said.

Homicide detectives were involved in an investigation into a shooting death in the 800 block of Greenleaf Boulevard in Compton, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

The shooting was reported around 8 p.m. and a man was clearly dead at the scene, according to the release.

The other four victims were transported to a local hospital and their conditions were not immediately known, according to the release.

Deputies said the shooting happened near Compton College but was not school-related, KCAL-TV reported.

No information was available on a suspect.
