Mississippi authorities arrest man accused of kidnapping Louisiana children, 1 girl dead

WE HAVE BREAKING NEWS, TRAGIC NEWS TO BRING YOU NOW, REGARDING THIS AMBER ALERT. A suspect is in custody, Daniel Callahan. AND TRAGICALLY, ONE OF THOSE CHILDREN HAS NOW BEEN FOUND DEAD. JIMMY TRAVIS NOW GIVES US AN UPDATE. OUTSIDE THE PARISH OF TANGIPAHOA. Let’s go see it live where our vehicle was. WHAT? Our suspect and our two young children had a relationship between Daniel Callahan and them. THEY WERE INVOLVED IN A RELATIONSHIP THEY WERE INVOLVED WITH. DO YOU BELIEVE THAT DANIEL CALLAHAN IS THE PERSON WHO KILLED KELLY BRUNET? I mean, we have to wait and gather all the evidence, but I don’t know who else it would be. IT WOULD BE, YOU KNOW, IT IS. DO YOU KNOW HOW WE KILLED THE FOUR YEAR OLD CHILD? NO. WE COME. Like I said, it’s fair. Our deputies are on site at this time. I mean, it just happened in the last 30 minutes. So, you know, we’re sitting there evaluating it. Uh, our detectives, uh, have just made contact with the victim’s family, and I believe he’s going to drive the victim’s family to Jackson, Mississippi, to, uh, pick up the six-year-old girl and the to bring back. I’m really sorry this happened. Um, my condolences to the family. Um, so you say Daniel Callahan was found in Jackson, Mississippi. DANIEL CALLAHAN WAS APPREHED IN JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI, BY REGIONAL AUTHORITIES. He had the victim’s car with her, alive and well. SIX-YEAR-OLD CHILD AND NEXT IN A WOODED AREA. PROXIMITY OF THE CAR. THE BODY OF THE FOUR-YEAR-OLD CHILD WAS FOUND AND HE JUST LAYED HER OUT. HE WASN’T BURIED OR NOTHING. I CAN’T ANSWER THIS. Like I said, we’re on stage right now. Our detectives are up there and starting the crime scene. Chief, I’m sorry, I’m just joining here for camera reasons, can you rephrase it so that Daniel Callahan is the suspect you’re looking for? CORRECT? PART OF AMBER? CORRECT. RIGHT. IS HE FROM THE LOUISIANA REGION? IS HE FROM THIS REGION? Yes. HIS AGE. Um, give me a moment on that. ALL RIGHT. LET ME CHECK IT. SOMETHING HERE. I’ll have to contact the detectives to get it. Take his age and stuff like that. I had to join the detectives. GET ALL THIS? Yeah, just something like that will happen. I know Raul really worked hard to find these girls. Um, just to get to this point, so we get to know this little four-year-old boy. I know you said you knew the family. THE FAMILY IS WELL KNOWN IN THE AREA, RIGHT? I mean, it’s just insane. This is a senseless tragedy. And, uh, you know, once we started looking and like I said, we were, you know, there was a big presence here. WE CHECKED EVERYTHING HERE. We worked a crime scene here for the homicide, but we had some leads, you know, through the Amber Alerts, through the technology search, through the investigations. Things like that, you know, we started looking and we started looking and, uh, the information that we got took us to MCCOMB, MISSISSIPPI, and then from MCCOMB, MISSISSIPPI, to JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI. And that’s exactly why every time we asked for our Amber Alert, we had to include Mississippi because we believe, as, you know, I said in my previous report, you know, that it was gone for a long period. THE TIME AND, YOU KNOW, COULD BE ANYWHERE. And boss, so what do we know about Daniel Callahan at this point? I just mean, it’s local. I think they dated from time to time. I’m not sure if he’s from KENTWOOD or RANDI or AMITE, but he’s, you know, from this area, from that area and about what time he was in, you know. Well, like I said, we haven’t even interviewed him yet. We have detectives on site. HE IS IN CUSTODY. And like I said, he’s in custody, and they’re working on the crime scene up there on the kid. Um, the paramedics were checking on the six-year-old to make sure she was okay. And, you know, our next step now is to interview to see what we can get from him, you know, to tie this whole thing together and lock him in. But also, you know, the thing is, bringing this six year old back to her grandparents, you know, I mean, she’s experienced something that most of us hopefully don’t will never know. And she’s going to have to spend the rest of her life living with that. I mean, it’s horrible. And Chief, you said the marshals saw this car drive through Jackson, Mississippi. From what I understand so far, there were suspicious suspects checking houses or whatever, checking door handles and stuff like that. So after we had a description of him, there was a marshal or an undercover officer in the area who saw this guy and went to apprehend him. HE RAN AWAY. THERE WAS A FOOT CHASE. HE WAS APPREHED. And after he was apprehended, they were able to find out. I don’t know if it’s over. I DON’T KNOW. And like I said, I don’t know yet because it happened so quickly. Um, if in questioning him, in questioning him or if he admitted or just an area, they found the car with the six year old in it and then they found the four year old in an area wooded area not far from the car. HIS BODY IS IN THE JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI AREA, Is that correct? JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI. Do you know where you have his Daniel Callahan since he is from the parish, he has already had problems with the police? I haven’t had time to look at all of this yet. We just had a meeting with the victim and Daniel to say that they had broken up. All I know is that there was some sort of relationship in the past. I don’t know if they were back together or separated. I’m not sure how much you know. SO A SIX YEAR OLD CHILD IS WITH THE AUTHORITIES OR PARAMEDICS. CORRECT. IT WAS WITH THE AUTHORITIES UP THERE AND SO basically BOT
