Cranston officer-involved shooting under investigation

CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred Sunday.

Video captured by a 12 News crew on scene showed Cranston, Providence and State Police cruisers near the Cranston-Providence line Sunday evening.

According to Cranston Police Maj. Todd Patalano, the investigation is being conducted by Cranston Police, State Police and the RI Attorney General’s Office.

Providence Police Chief Col. Oscar Perez told 12 News it happened just beyond the finish line in the town of Providence.

A Cranston officer was involved in the shooting and the attorney general’s protocol for reviewing the use of deadly force was activated, according to Perez.

The officer was transported to Kent County Hospital.

No additional information was provided about the suspect, who fired a gun during this incident, or the condition of the officer.
