DC area forecast: sunshine and heat again and again

A somewhat subjective assessment of the day’s weather, on a scale of 0 to 10.

4/10: Digit takes a hit as more heat sizzles and more humidity shivers.

  • Today: Quite sunny. Highs: 88 to 93.
  • This evening: Some clouds. Minimums: 65 to 72.
  • Tomorrow: Partly to mostly sunny. Heights: 86 to 91.

Until Thursday, the heat is constant as the sun sets and the humidity slowly increases. Rain is mostly absent, but a few thunderstorms could pop up in the area by Sunday afternoon and try to take the edge off the heat.

This evening: Partly cloudy and moderately warm with lows ranging from the mid 60s to 70s. Light winds again are from the south near 10 mph. Trust: high

Tomorrow (Wednesday): Additional cloud cover in the morning could slow the rise in temperatures slightly along with a light southeast breeze. High temperatures range from the mid 80s to low 90s, with moderate to high humidity continuing (dew points in the mid 60s). Trust: medium-high

Tomorrow evening: Warm conditions continue with lows ranging from the mid 60s to 70s. Confidence: High

THURSDAY Features mostly sunny skies and warmer conditions as temperatures reach the 90s in most areas with moderate to high humidity. A few spots could reach the mid 90s. Thursday night there could be a few clouds as it remains warm. Lows again range from the mid 60s to 70s. Confidence: High

Friday And SATURDAY There are expected to be mostly sunny days with very warm conditions from afternoon to evening. Highs range from the mid-90s to near 100, perhaps just short of the 2012 and 1988 records of 99 and 101. Moderate to high humidity moves maximum heat indexes into the low 100s. Caution and Hydration are recommended for prolonged outdoor activities. Friday and Saturday night are partly cloudy and muggy with lows into the 70s. Confidence: Medium-High

Sunday This is another hot area with highs in the mid to late 90s, under partly to mostly sunny skies and moderate to high humidity. There is a slightly better chance today for Washington to match or surpass the record of 98 from 1988. Scattered showers and thunderstorms late in the day and evening could finally begin to dissipate the heat to some extent. Confidence: average
