Air traffic control tower catches fire at Charlotte airport

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – Firefighters are responding to a fire at Charlotte Douglas International Airport Thursday morning.

THE Charlotte Fire Department said the fire started around 8:10 a.m. on Josh Birmingham Parkway.

Officials said the fire broke out in the old air traffic control tower and four construction workers were briefly trapped but were able to escape on their own, unharmed.

Photos and videos from the airport show smoke billowing from the tower.

Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control within 10 minutes. A second alarm was raised for additional resources as a precaution.
