“Improving voter preferences is one thing, but perhaps more importantly, we have seen a notable erosion of Trump’s advantage on the economy and immigration, while Biden has built on his advantages in matters of abortion and health care,” he added. “If voters do not perceive Trump as significantly better on the economy and immigration, the case for returning to power will become much murkier for some voters.”

The poll, conducted June 14-17, found that guilty verdicts in Trump’s secret trial in Manhattan and his first son Hunter Biden’s gun case in Delaware did not move much things.

Just 2% of voters said Trump’s belief made them support the president, and an equal percentage said Hunter’s belief made them support the former president.

“The underlying demographic trends that defined the race remain in place,” Shaw said.

“Biden improved slightly among women and seniors, keeping him afloat despite significant reductions from 2020 in support among younger voters and African Americans,” he added.

Biden and Trump will face off next week in the first of two presidential debates scheduled before the November election.
