Christian Ramirez, 4, of Torrance, found safe after going missing from Huntington Lake campground in Fresno County

FRESNO COUNTY, CA. (KABC)– A 4-year-old Torrance boy was found safe Friday morning after spending the night in the Fresno County wilderness.

Christian Ramirez disappeared Thursday morning from a campground near Huntington Lake.

Rescue teams launched massive searches – on the ground, in the air, with dogs and on the roads. Their efforts paid off. Search teams found the little boy on Friday about 400 meters from where he went missing.

“He was no longer in the campsite area. He was in a wooded area. It was clear he got lost and he was kind of hunkered down all night,” the lieutenant said. Brandon Pursell of the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.

Christian was described as being in good shape, despite only having a t-shirt and shorts on all night. He was hungry and tired, but otherwise he was in good shape. He found his parents.

It’s still unclear exactly how he became separated from his family, but authorities said it appeared he wandered off while they were at the campsite.

Teams stayed overnight in the wooded area trying to reach 60 to 70 searchers Friday morning in a forest populated by bears and snakes and in dangerous terrain.

“There’s a lot of things that could have gone really wrong with this one, and we were lucky, the family was lucky. The boy is very, very lucky to be with his family,” Pursell said.

As the summer camping season approaches, the sheriff’s office hopes this case will prompt families to monitor their children more closely, demonstrating how easily a child can get lost in just a few minutes.
