Man, 31, shot dead in Birmingham’s Tom Brown village

An early morning shooting in the Tom Brown Village housing community in Birmingham left one person dead.

Police identified the victim as Brandon Wilson. He was 31 years old.

South Precinct officers were dispatched at 1:30 a.m. Saturday to the 500 block of North 41st Street after the city’s gunshot detection system – Shot Spotter – indicated that shots had been fired. fired at this location. Officers were then notified that a person was down, Officer Truman Fitzgerald said.

Wilson was found injured at the intersection of 41st Street and 5th Court North.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue rushed him to UAB Hospital where he was later clearly dead.

Fitzgerald said details were limited and no one was in custody.

Wilson is the 59th homicide in Birmingham in 2024. Of these, five were deemed justifiable and therefore not considered criminal.

Across Jefferson County, there were 82 homicides, including 59 in Birmingham.
