27 people shot in Akron, 1 man killed, several victims hospitalized

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – Akron Police are investigating a mass shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the area of ​​Kelly and 8th Avenue.

Officers responded to the area just after midnight after several people called 911 to report shots fired causing several victims.

As officers arrived at the scene, hospital staff reported several people arriving at the emergency room with gunshot wounds.

Police say a total of 27 people were shot and a 27-year-old man was killed.

The conditions of the other victims have not been released.

A firearm and several dozen shell casings were recovered at the scene, police said.
