On Friday around 5:50 p.m., officers went to the 2800 block of Terrace Drive in Chevy Chase for a welfare check on the probation officer who failed to show up for work after checking on Sewell, who is a registered sex offender, at his residence.

Upon entering the apartment, police discovered a man who was visibly dead at the scene. The cause of his death has not been released by authorities. Further information and the identity of the parole officer are pending after “proper notification of next of kin,” according to police.

Police are continuing their search for Sewell and have issued a warrant for his arrest, charging him with second-degree murder.

Sewell is believed to be armed and dangerous, and may be driving a gray 2017 Hyundai Elantra sedan with Maryland license plates 93661HT.
