Tractor-truck driver arrested in shooting on 210 Freeway in Pasadena

A tractor-trailer driver was arrested on suspicion of opening fire on another motorist along the westbound 210 Freeway in Pasadena Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers arrested Jaime Aguilar, 28, as the suspected shooter after the victim called 911 when he found a bullet hole in the back of his car, the CHP said in a news release. The victim was not injured while the suspect is detained for attempted murder.

The victim, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, was driving a white Infiniti sedan along the highway near the Allen Avenue exit when he noticed a freighter following him, CHP officials said. He tried to get off the highway about a mile away, at the Lake Avenue exit — and that’s when authorities said they heard a gunshot.

At that point, he stopped at a gas station at North Lake Avenue and East Maple Street and looked at the back of his car, where he saw damage “looking like a gunshot,” CHP officials said in a news release.

Officers received a call at 9:14 p.m. about the shooting and later found the suspect driving on Highway 5 northbound, just south of Highway 14. They stopped him and arrested him shortly After.

Investigators are still trying to determine the suspect’s potential motive for following the victim and opening fire.

No further details have been released as the investigation continues.
