1 killed, 4 injured in Compton pool party shooting; ongoing investigation

COMPTON, California. (KABC)– One person was killed and four others injured in a shooting Friday night at a Compton backyard party.

The incident was reported around 7:50 p.m. near Mayo Avenue and Greenleaf Boulevard.

According to the Compton Fire Department, a man was found dead at the scene. Another man and three women were rushed to hospital, but their condition is unknown.

It’s clear what sparked the shooting, but witnesses at the scene told Eyewitness News the shooting happened during a poolside birthday party that was happening in the backyard of a home neighbor. People scattered and ran around the neighborhood in swimsuits, leaving their belongings behind at the party.

Compton College is in the immediate vicinity, but the campus is not directly linked to the shooting. The school held its commencement Friday at an off-campus location in Carson.

There is no information yet on a suspect or suspects.
