Shooting near Los Angeles college leaves one dead, four injured, police say

LOS ANGELES– A shooting near a Los Angeles County middle school killed a man and injured four other people Friday evening, police said.

Authorities responded to a call shortly before 8 p.m. that shots had been fired in the Greenleaf Boulevard area of ​​Compton, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.

When authorities arrived, they saw about 100 people leaving a home and headed inside to find a man who had been shot, according to the release. The man was clearly dead at the scene.

Another man and three women were also shot and injured. They were transported to local hospitals and treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the release.

Deputies said the shooting happened near Compton College but was not school-related, KCAL-TV reported.

No information was immediately available on a suspect.
