Sacramento juveniles arrested after ‘causing a ruckus’ at DOCO; 5 police officers attacked and broken window of a patrol vehicle

YEAH, BRITAIN, WE HAVE LEARNED THAT THE POLICE HAVE ISSUED CITATIONS TO THESE MINORS FOR RESISTANCE AND INTERFERENCE, VIOLATION OF CURFEW AND ONE WAS CITED FOR BATTERY ON A PEACE OFFICER. It was a very volatile situation here at Doco last night. AND YOUTH ADVOCATES NOW CALL ON PARENTS AND THE COMMUNITY TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. YEAH, I… GET OUT. CHAOS BREAKING INTO DOWNTOWN COMMONS FRIDAY EVENING, AS SACRAMENTO POLICE DETAINED SEVERAL PEOPLE. OFFICERS SAY BETWEEN 80 AND 100 MINORS RUN AROUND DOCO, CAUSING EVERYONE. POLICE CITED AND RELEASED SEVEN JUVENILE IN TOTAL, ONE FOR BEATING A PEACE OFFICER, TWO FOR CURFEW VIOLATION, AND FOUR FOR RESISTANCE AND INTERFERENCE. POLICE ALSO SAY FIVE OFFICERS WERE ASSAULTED. IN A STATEMENT TO KCRA THREE, THE DEPARTMENT SAYS IN PART, QUOTE, OUR OFFICERS MADE GOOD DECISIONS IN THE FACE OF THE AGGRESSIVENESS OF THESE MINORS. THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR IS UNACCEPTABLE AND FORTUNATELY, NONE OF OUR OFFICERS WERE SERIOUSLY INJURED. THESE ARE THE THINGS WE TRIED TO PREVENT. WORST OF YOUNG PEOPLE, FOUNDER BARRY AXIOS SAYS THE ANARCHY AT DOCO IS REMINISCENT OF TEENAGE BONDING AT LOCAL MALLS. DURING THE HEIGHT OF COVID. IT’S DANGEROUS. Um, a lot of unruly young people, you know, young people who are out to cause havoc, he said. WHILE COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS LOVE THEIR WORK WITH CHILDREN AND TEENS, THEY CAN’T DO MORE. So he’s calling on families to step up as a major part of the equation because parents aren’t doing their job. WHEN PARENTS DON’T GET INVOLVED IN UNDERSTANDING WHAT THEIR CHILD IS DOING. WHEN YOU HAVE A MOMENT LIKE THIS, SACRAMENTO POLICE SAY A 34-YEAR-OLD MAN THREW A METAL PIPE AT AN OFFICER AND BREAK THE WINDOW OF A PATROL CAR. DURING ALL of Friday’s unrest, he was arrested on felony assault and vandalism charges against two other adults and also arrested on resisting and interference, but advocates want to focus on the youth and how to point them in the right direction . Summer is now, uh, here because a lot of kids are outside, a lot of kids have nothing to do. WE WANT TO STOP. We will put our money where our mouth is. TYLER MCCLURE IS THE CEO OF YOUTH MENTORING ORGANIZATION GIFTED MISFITS. HE SAYS FUNDING FOR MORE EVENTS SHOULD BE A PRIORITY. WE NEED SAFE SPACES FOR OUR YOUTH TO BE WHERE ARE THE LATE NIGHT SPACES WHERE THEY CAN, YOU KNOW, ROCK OUT WITH, YOU KNOW, PROPER SUPERVISION, GOOD MUSIC, GOOD VIBES AND GOOD FOOD KEEPING CHILDREN ENGAGED AND OFF THE STREET AT NIGHT. There is no benefit to being out late. This is when most of our children are slaughtered. That’s when they steal from places. That’s when they were arrested. This is when the fighting happens. NOW THE SACRAMENTO CITY CODE STATES THAT IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A MINOR TO STAY IN A PUBLIC SPACE IF THEY ARE ALONE AND IT IS DURING CURFEW HOURS. IT’S BETWEEN 10:00 P.M. AND 6:00 A.M. EXCEPTIONS TO THIS ARE IF A MINOR IS WITH A GUARDIAN, IF THEY ARE INVOLVED IN SOME KIND OF EMERGENCY, OR IF THEY ATTEND AN OFFICIAL SCHOOL FUNCTION OR SPORTS FUNCTION
