Senator John Fetterman and his wife hospitalized after car accident in Maryland

Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pennsylvania) and his wife Giselle were hospitalized following a two-car crash in Maryland on Sunday.

Fetterman was driving a Chevrolet Traverse and struck the rear of a Chevrolet Impala on Interstate-70 in Hancock, according to a Maryland State Police spokesperson. The department said in a statement to USA TODAY that the driver of the Impala was also taken to War Memorial Hospital in West Virginia.

No citations were given and an investigation is underway, according to the department.

A spokesperson for the senator said in a statement to USA TODAY that the Fettermans were taken to the hospital out of an abundance of caution and that John was treated for a bruised shoulder. The office did not disclose Giselle’s injuries.
